How to Help
Chernobyl

No act of kindness,
no matter how small, is ever wasted. - Aesop

Welcome to the East Cambridgeshire Link of the Chernobyl Children Life Line.

There are currently more than 145 links throughout the UK. This link was set up in September 2000 and the first group of 9 children were hosted in July 2001 for 4 weeks. In between those dates much time was spent fundraising as it takes around £350 in order to bring each child over from Belarus.

The visits are viewed as holiday of a lifetime by the children and through the trips that we take and the welcome that our host families give, that is what we hope that they will have.

We collect sallow faced children with dark circles around their eyes from the airport. After a few weeks of eating well and breathing the uncontaminated air we are able to deliver back to the airport bright eyed and pink cheeked, healthy looking children, who have had (we hope) their holiday of a lifetime.

We try to bring a small group of children twice a year - February and mid June to mid July.  At the moment due to lack of funds we have been unable for the last 2 years to bring a February group.

These children are the victims of the 1986 nuclear explosion in Chernobyl, Ukraine. See the Chernobyl Children Life Line website www.chernobylchildlifeline.org/

We are always looking for volunteer families to host - 2 children at a time for 4 weeks at a time. We usually bring same gender children aged 9 – 10 years old. It is important that there is someone at home during the day.
